The very long short story of Jenn & Matt Matt & I met in 1993. Both of us were in high school and we were pretty much high school sweethearts. Neither of us had had a serious relationship before and it was teenage love at it's height. I carried a picture of Matt around in a little frame when we were apart. He called me night and day. We went on each other's family vacations and spent hours at each other's houses. I don't remember why we broke up but we were teenagers. I'm sure it was - like - totally important. Mom says I locked myself in my room and played the same country song overa nd over again after it happened. After we broke up, Matt left Victoria and finished high school in New Jersey. We didn't see each other again until 2000 (the 7 year itch!). I was a senior in college and Matt was living in San Antonio. I had run into Marcus, Matt's brother, at a party in Austin and he'd passed my phone number on to Matt. Matt called and we ended up staying up all night talking and laughing in my tiny apartment by campus. I can't remember what we talked about but we had a great time and there *might* have been a few sparks (ok definitely). It was my senior year of college and I didn't have much time for anything that didn't involve laplace transforms or statistics though and we ended up losing contact again after that night. We found each other again in January of 2007 after another 7 year break. I was visiting my friend Kate in Phoenix and got an email from Matt out of the blue. He had found me online and decided to send me a hello (total Myspace stalker!). He was living in Tucson, about 2 hours from where I was that weekend! I emailed him back while I was in Phoenix but he didn't respond. About a week later I started getting text messages from someone named HOSS. I had no clue who it was and didn't answer. When I finally realized it was Matt and called him back, we started talking on the phone and pretty much didn't stop until he moved here. Of course, before he moved he came to visit first. He had broken his foot and had some time off from work, so he flew to Texas to see his family. I picked him up from the airport in Austin and I was SO nervous. I don't think I got over that nervousness until he'd lived here for about a month. We spent a little time together before he headed down to Victoria, but it definitely wasn't enough for either of us. I think we sent about two thousand text messages the week he was in Vic. Before he flew out we hung out one more time. He actually got to meet all my friends (who all approved!) I showed him my favorite part of Austin - the lake - and I'm pretty sure that's what hooked him. We had drinks at Hula Hut and took the boat out. The night before he left we had dinner at a restaurant in South Austin called Freddy's. He oh so casually dropped the bomb that he was planning on moving to Austin. Just like that. I am almost positive it was the boat ride. Who can say no to a chic with a ski boat?! At this point we'd had about three years worth of conversations on the phone, including the 'what are you looking for' talk and the 'holy sh$t could this be for real' conversation. It still seemed pretty crazy to think he was moving here. The next time we saw each other, I took a trip to Tucson. We spent a long weekend hanging out with his friends, going to street fairs and watching baseball games. It was crazy being together. We'd spent so much time on the phone and we knew so much about each other, but we hadn't spent hardly any time at all actually TOGETHER in the same room in 15 years. I was pretty shy if any of you can believe it. Once I got back to Texas we just waited. He was planning on moving to Austin as soon as he could get a job transfer. Both of are still proud of how patient we were during those umm 3 ENDLESS months. When his transfer finally happened, I drove to Tucson (a straight shot overnight), we packed his TV up and moved him to Austin. It was the 4th time we'd seen each other in 15 years. We had been dating for a little over a year when he proposed to me. He surprised me at home on April 17th, 2008. He'd had the ring for a while at this point and I knew it. Mostly because anytime we had people over he'd attempt to sneak off into the garage to "show them something". I was so ready for him to ask me I think I almost asked him a few times. I am pretty sure he wasn't even nervous. It had taken me a while to get used to the idea of getting married. It was not something I had really considered until I met Matt. I definitely never thought saying yes to someone would be so easy. I swear, he's just so cute! There was no way I could say no.
We're living in South Austin now with our two cats, three dogs and two snakes. A majority of the time we've got someone staying in our guest room and both of us love being able to help out. We're lucky to get to see Matt's family and some of mine pretty often. Matt is currently a man of leisure, applying for college in the fall. I'm still working for Accenture as a Database Administrator. We spend a lot of time playing with the dogs. We also try to spend as much time as possible out on the lake in the boat. We're lucky to have a fantastic group of friends who are almost always up for a backyard bbq. Matt's sister Kyra and her boyfriend Aaron will be living across the street from us soon, which is just awesome. We can't wait to meet our new neice (or nephew, although I'm leaning towards neice) later in the year. I feel like I'm marrying into a wonderful family and I know my family thinks the world of Matt. My Mother claims he's been her favorite since 1993 and I believe her. He is such a kiss up!
